About House of Wong

The artwork on the menu cover is an artist’s rendering of the Wong’s village and home in Southern China which still stands today. Teddy Wong was born in North Dakota, spent his school age years in China, and returned to the United States for high school. However, he was not able to graduate because he was drafted and served in the U.S. Army for three years during World War II. During the War, Teddy participated in several battle campaigns in the Pacific theatre of operations. He returned to China following the war and married Laura in 1948. Teddy and his beautiful bride came back to North Dakota where Teddy worked at a restaurant in Fargo and first learned the art of baking stew and apple pies, signature items on the menu back then. He not only learned by watching, but poured over many recipe books and through trial and error, perfected the art of baking pies.
